Do it Yourself systems

If you’d prefer to Do It Yourself and save on costs we have a complimentary design service and can supply DIY install kits and Complete DIY Systems for any size home and because we’re right here in Adelaide we can not only assist you over the phone but if you want to come and talk face to face or need help on site we can do that too.

Planning your DIY install.

Firstly we recommend using a 9m hose where possible as this provides the best performance and is easier to handle than a longer hose.

Plan your system on paper first.

The easiest way to do this is to take a piece of string that is 8m scaled down to match the scale of your plan (we use 8m to allow some spare length for getting around furniture in the finished home).

  • Start from one corner of the home and measure to a point on the plan that the hose will reach and mark the 1st inlet location. Measure from this inlet noting which rooms the hose will reach and mark the furthest points that it reaches.

  • Now use the string to measure from the points that the hose reached from the 1st inlet and look for possible locations for the 2nd inlet, (hint: look for locations on corner walls that give you a 270 degree curve as this gives you maximum cleaning potential from the one inlet). Mark the 2nd inlet location and measure from this inlet noting which rooms the hose will reach and mark the furthest points that it reaches.

  • Repeat the steps above until you have made sure all rooms (including walk in robes, Laundries etc.. have been reached).

You should now have an idea of how many inlets you require, you may find that you have to do this a couple of times to end up with the ideal locations and you may also decide that an extra inlet means that you can place them in locations that better suit your needs. Or you may find that a longer hose might mean you need less inlets, but remember longer hoses can reduce performance so if you do this we recommend going up a machine size.

If the frame work to your home is already up it’s a good idea to test your layout. Take a piece of rope (again 1m shorter than the final hose length) and run it from the inlet locations you marked on your plan and make sure it will reach every corner of your home.

Choosing a Hose

There are two types of hoses. A traditional standard hose that when you plug it into the wall the machine starts or a switch hose that has a switch on the handle allowing you to stop and start the machine from the handle end.

Choosing a machine.

Selecting the correct machine is important so that you have good suction and air flow, but it is not necessary to over spec the machine, below is a list of the machines that we recommend depending on the size of your home. When you are ready head over to our Complete DIY systems and make your selection. Remember we're here to help so please contact us any time you need a hand, happy vacuuming!
